ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team began the 2008 season by scoring a pair of wins at the Elmhurst College Invitational. The Bluejays started the tournament by knocking off Coe College 3-0 and capped the evening with a 3-1 win over Lakeland College.

ELMHURST 3, COE 0 - Elmhurst won its season opener, defeating Coe 25-20, 25-18, 25-17. Callie Schriner (Lanark/Eastland) and Lisa Burger (Addison/Addison Trail) each pounded down seven kills in the win. Caitlin O'Hara (Lemont/H.S.) and Alison Friedrich (Wadsworth/Zion-Benton) each recorded five kills. Burger added 13 digs while Katie Buechel (Fond du Lac, Wis./H.S.) added 11 digs. Emily Hilliker (Franklin Grove/Ashton Franklin Center) totaled 13 assists and five kills while Lindy Melville (Jenison, Mich./H.S.) finished with 12 assists. Schriner added three aces and a block in the victory.

ELMHURST 3, LAKELAND 1 - The Bluejays moved to 2-0 by toppling Lakeland 14-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-14. Morgan Jones (Seymour, Ind./H.S.) led the way for Elmhurst with 12 kills and two blocks. Hilliker totaled 10 kills, 22 assists, and 12 digs. O'Hara recorded seven kills and two blocks while Friedrich added seven kills and six digs. Schriner finished with six kills and a team-high 19 digs. Burger and Buechel finished with 14 and 12 digs, respectively.

Elmhurst battles Hope College and St. Mary's University (Minn.) on the tournament second day (Saturday, August 30).
