Sara Jo Sternard is entering her second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Elmhurst volleyball team.
Sternard was a four-year starter for the University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team. She earned Horizon League recognition as a selection to the all-newcomer team in her freshman season. She earned all-conference recognition from the Horizon League during her junior year. She also was selected as the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions and voted team co-captain during her senior season. She received multiple team honors from UIC including: Most Improved Player, Most Valuable Player and multiple Spirit Awards.
Sternard closed out her career by becoming the 16th member of UIC's 1,000 clubs, finishing her four-year career with 1,023 kills. She also ranked third in program history with a .283 attack percentage.
Sternard graduated from the UIC Honors College with a degree in psychology. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology at Elmhurst.
