He worked as the team’s defensive coordinator for five years and served as the team’s assistant head coach for one season. In addition to Elmhurst, Brittich had coaching stops at Hope College, Carthage College, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University and Adams State College.

A 2004 graduate of Albion College, Brittich was a four-year starter and two-time first-team all-conference selection for the Britons and was named the MIAA's Defensive MVP in 2003. He was inducted into Albion’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. He earned his master’s degree from Adams State.
