ELMHURST, Ill. – Elmhurst Women's Lacrosse celebrated the careers of their three seniors on Saturday morning, before a furious fourth-quarter comeback fell just short in the season finale as the Bluejays fell to Illinois Wesleyan 10-9 at Langhorst Field.
Both sides would trade first-quarter scores, but a pair of power play goals would give the visitors a 4-2 advantage after the opening 15 minutes, with Zoe Valdevenito and Hannah Jacob putting the Jays on the board.
The second quarter would go scoreless for both sides, but the Titans won the third period with another 4-2 score line to double their lead, 8-4. Olivia Ingraffia and Alannah Williams both found the back of the net to keep Elmhurst within range for the late rally.
Natalie Harty and Valdevenito both scored early in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 9-6. After a Titan goal, Grace Lorkiewicz scored back-to-back goals to make it a 10-8 game with under four minutes to play.
Ilyssa Calderon would score to make it a one-goal game with 2:15 to play, but Elmhurst would run out of time before pulling even as Illinois Wesleyan escaped with the win.
Lorkiewicz and Valdevenito led Elmhurst with two goals apiece, with Valdevenito scoring a team-high four points.
