Chicago, IL - Elmhurst found themselves playing behind early as North Park built a lead through the opening innings, forcing the Bluejays to chase the game before mounting a late push in a 14-6 loss.
Elmhurst mounted its biggest response in the eighth inning, putting together a five-run rally with discipline at the plate and situational hitting. Brett Vercruysse reached to start the inning and advanced on a wild pitch before Zach Konrad delivered a single to move runners into scoring position. Javier Cervantes followed with a walk that helped bring in a run, and Elmhurst continued to capitalize on ball passes and hit-by-pitches. RBIs from Connor Drowns, Logan Bryant, and Oliver Dugas, along with an RBI walk by Vercruysse, capped a five-run inning that cut into the deficit 10-6.
Offensively, Elmhurst totaled six runs on six hits. Adan Nieves and Cervantes each tabbed two hits to lead the lineup, while Vercruysse added a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Konrad added a hit and a run, while Drowns, and Bryant each recorded an RBI. The Bluejays showed discipline and patience with eight walks.
On the mound, Logan Leach took the loss after allowing five earned runs over 3.0 innings with three strikeouts. Robert Brenneman followed with a strong 2.2 innings of relief, allowing just one run and striking out one. David Diaz and Marty Fraga worked through the middle innings, while Ryan McGinley added a scoreless appearance to close things out.
Bluejays return to the dugout on the road, April 25th at Carthage for a doubleheader to start at 1:00 PM.
