ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University Baseball team put together a strong offensive card, using a key fourth-inning to power its way to an 11-run performance dropping to Illinois Wesleyan 12-11.

Elmhurst started to pick up momentum in the fourth inning, turning in efficient hitting and run productions that helped separate them from Illinois Wesleyan. The Bluejays capitalized on opportunities throughout the frame, stringing together offense that proved to be the difference in the contest.

A highlight of the day came from Zach Konrad, who delivered a two run home run to lead the Bluejay's offense. Konrad finished with three RBI, two runs, going 2-5 on hits.

At the plate, Elmhurst totaled 15 hits, throughout their lineup. Evan Johnson led the way with four hits and two runs scored, while Brett Vercruysse added three hits and two RBI. Adan Nieves scored two runs, driving in one himself, while Timothy O'Connell posted two hits and an RBI. Javier Cervantes added two hits and an RBI, and Marty Fraga drove in two runs and added two stolen bases. Connor Drowns also recorded a hit, double, and drew two walks in the conference match up.

On the mound, we saw multiple arms throughout the contest. Jonathan Boyles started, throwing 2.0 innings with one strikeout. Logan Leach followed with 1.2 innings, recording two strikeouts. Robert Brenneman drew the loss, with .2 innings pitched, while Jack Goergen provided 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and striking out four. Marty Fraga closed things out also with a scoreless inning on the mound trying to give the Bluejays a chance.

Elmhurst will look to hit the bases again this Saturday April 18, against Carroll, at 1:00 pm on their home field.
