ELMHURST, Ill. – Bluejay Softball made their first appearance at Salt Creek Park on Saturday, opening the home schedule with a doubleheader against Millikin.
Game 1
Millikin 13, Elmhurst 1 (6 inn.)
WP: Dralle • LP: Denny (2-4)
The visitors would post two runs in the top of the first for the early lead, then pull away with three more in the 3rd and a seven-run rally in the 6th inning. Elmhurst would record six base hits in the game, with three of them coming in the bottom of the 6th when back-to-back two-out singles from Maddie Kreich and Grace Hayes would score pinch-runner Sidney Carlson to get a run on the board.
AnnaMarie Vivirito would lead the Jays at the plate, going 3-for-3, while Hayes finished 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Game 2
Millikin 13, Elmhurst 1 (5 inn.)
WP: Wilken • LP: Lenczewski (2-6)
In game two the Big Blue posted six runs in the 1st inning to take control, then worked around four hits and a walk drawn by the Elmhurst lineup. The Bluejays broke through in their last at-bat, when Carlson led off the bottom of the 5th by reaching on error and later scoring on Vivirito's sacrifice fly.
Carlson finished 1-for-3 in the game with a run scored, with three other Bluejays recording base hits throughout the game.
Elmhurst will look to bounce back with the start of a busy week, beginning on Monday with a trip to Carroll. The Bluejays return home to face Beloit (Wisc.) on Tuesday afternoon, followed by a matchup with Wheaton on Thursday and Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday.
