ELMHURST, Ill. – The Bluejays made history on Tuesday afternoon, as Elmhurst Softball took a doubleheader sweep over Beloit (Wisc.) thanks in part to a no-hitter thrown by Emma Lenczewski, and a two-home run performance from Clara Rice.
Game 1
Elmhurst 6, Beloit 0
WP: Lenczewski (3-6) • LP: Krepelka
HR: Jenkins (2)
Lenczewski would strike out eight without allowing a hit over seven innings, recording the Bluejays' first no-hitter since 2012. The Jays would take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd, when Hailee Jenkins tripled down the right field line to score Bella Swift and Kaylee Aimone.
The lead grew in the 4th inning, when Jenkins's shot deep to center field would get down, allowing for a three-run inside-the-park home run, giving the senior five RBI in the game.
Jenkins and Aimone each finished with two hits in the game, with Aimone collecting two runs and a double in the win.
Gmae 2
Elmhurst 10, Beloit 0 (5 innings)
WP: Hoyh (1-4) • LP: Friedrichsohn
HR: Rice, 2 (2)
The Jays would score in each of the first three innings, beginning with Sidney Carlson's leadoff single and a base hit from Annamarie Vivirito. Brenna Morley's fielder's choice would push across the first run of the game.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Rice would connect on her first home run of the day, with a shot to left center that scored a pair of runs and put Elmhurst ahead 3-0. In the 3rd, Bailey Proffit's RBI single scored Hannah Kofira, before a wild pitch would bring home Danielle Hood to make it a 5-0 game. Two batters later, Abigail Lindauer's two-out single would score a pair of runs to push the Bluejay lead to 7-0.
Rice would then end the game early on run rule in the bottom of the 5th, after Maddie Kreich's leadoff walk and a Beloit error set the table for her second home run of the day.
Rice finished the game with five RBI, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Bailey Proffitt finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Elmhurst will look to keep the momentum rolling when they resume CCIW play on Wednesday afternoon with a trip to Carroll. First pitch with the Pioneers is set for 2:00 p.m.
