Boyles Goes the Distance in Bluejays’ Nine-Run Eighth Win

WHEATON, ILL. -
Elmhurst University baseball earned their first conference victory dominating the mound and home plate, defeating Wheaton 14-3. The Bluejays trailed early after a three-run first inning from Wheaton, but quickly responded with Marty Fragas double and Adan Nieves sac fly allowing the Bluejays to level the score 3-3.

The turning point for the Bluejays came in the eighth inning, where Elmhurst delivered. The inning began with discipline from Javier Cervantes drawing a walk and advancing into scoring position before Marty Fraga singled to move him to third. Adan Nieves then delivered an RBI double to bring in a run, followed by Evan Johnson's two-RBI single to extend the lead. Landon Truong capped off the inning with a two-RBI double, and Fraga added a sacrifice fly to finish the frame. In total, the Bluejays scored nine runs in the inning, turning a competitive game into immaculate victory.

Offensively, Elmhurst totaled 14 runs on 11 hits, Rock Smith came with power for a home run while finishing with two RBIs and two runs scored. Adan Nieves and Evan Johnson each drove in two runs, while Timothy O'Connell, Landon Truong and Marty Fraga also added two RBIs. Javier Cervantes added discipline with three walks tied to his three runs, the Bluejays also applied pressure with multiple stolen bases from Nieves, Johnson, Vercruysse, Konrad, and Fraga, making their team total seven on the day.

On the mound, Jonathan Boyles delivered a complete performance, pitching all 8.0 innings while allowing just three runs (two earned) on eight hits. He struck out four batters while keeping the walk column clean. Boyles faced 33 batters with 104 pitches to secure the win, anchoring Elmhurst's first conference victory.
