DECATUR, Ill. – The Elmhurst University Women's Basketball team led wire-to-wire and built a 26-point advantage on its way to a 72–63 victory over Millikin on Saturday afternoon at the Griswold P.E. Center.
Elmhurst opened the game with an early scoring run and never relinquished the lead, holding the advantage well after the second quarter of the contest. The Bluejays steadily increased the margin throughout the afternoon and pushed the lead to its largest point at 26 late in the fourth quarter.
Kristin Bukata led all scorers with 22 points, finishing 8-of-16 from the field and 6-of-8 at the free-throw line while adding nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in 40 minutes. Anna Kleszynski gains more confidence recording 11 points and seven rebounds, while Maia Lewers showed momentum with 11 points and an assists. Natalie Medina added 10 points off the bench, and Natalie Harty contributed six points and two assists.
Elmhurst shot 46.8 percent from the field for the game and totaled 42 points in the paint, along with 14 fast-break points. The Bluejays also forced 22 Millikin turnovers and converted those into scoring opportunities.
Elmhurst outscored Millikin in each of the first three quarters and entered the fourth period with a 53–34 advantage before closing out the contest.
The Bluejays will return home this Wednesday, February 4th, at 7:00 pm against Carroll for their final time in regular conference play.
