CHICAGO, Ill. – With a career-high 32 points, Dominic Trelenberg would lead the Bluejays to a key CCIW road victory on Saturday, as Elmhurst held on down the stretch for an 81-75 win at North Park.
Trelenberg would go 13-for-22 in the win, knocking down three three-pointers and leading all players with eight rebounds on the day. Four Jays finished in double figures overall, with Sebastian Blachut finishing with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, and Aidyn Boone and Luke Smith each scoring 10 apiece.
Elmhurst would lead the game wire-to-wire, opening with a 7-3 lead in the early minutes after a three from Trelenberg and buckets from Vinnie Adjahoungbeta and Blachut. Another three from Trelenberg at the 15:21 mark put the Bluejays up by double-digits, and the visitors would take their largest lead of the half after E.J. Marshall's jumper put Elmhurst up 41-20 with 5:01 left until halftime.
North Park closed the gap, cutting the lead to 45-30 at the break and eventually pulling back to within single digits midway through the second half.
Leading by three after a pair of Viking free throws, the Bluejays would go on a quick five-point run, with a bucket from Trelenberg followed by a steal from Boone leading to a fast-break dunk by Blachut. Elmhurst would out-score North Park 9-2 over a two-minute stretch to close out the win.
The Bluejays return home for a pair of matchups next week, beginning on Wednesday night, Jan. 21 when they host Carthage. Tipoff with the Firebirds is set for 7:00 p.m.
