Elmhurst, Ill. – April 5, 2025 — Illinois Wesleyan came away with a decisive 7-0 victory over Elmhurst in a CCIW men's tennis contest Saturday afternoon at the Lester Brune Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Titans moved to 5-8 on the season and picked up their first conference win (1-1 CCIW), while Elmhurst dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The Titans set the tone early in doubles, taking all three matches without dropping a game. Elmhurst's top pair of Charalampos Vasilopoulos and Emiliano Montenegro-Galarza looked to find a rhythm against IWU's Ian Turnbull and Ryan McCoy but couldn't overcome the strong net play and service pressure from the visitors. Despite the 6-0 results across the board, the Bluejays showed glimpses of strong teamwork, particularly at the No. 2 spot where Adrian Songco and Ioannis Varsamis had several tightly contested points.
In singles, Elmhurst battled throughout the lineup, but Illinois Wesleyan's depth and consistency proved too much on the day. Montenegro-Galarza showed some early spark at No. 1 singles, pushing Turnbull with a few long rallies in the opening set before the Titan senior pulled away for a 6-2, 6-0 win. Varsamis put up a determined effort in the No. 2 slot, taking several games off Zeke Cross in a 6-1, 6-2 decision.
The Bluejays continued to compete across the lineup, with Adrian Songco and Pranit Shah each putting up a fight in their respective matches. However, IWU maintained its control, closing out straight-set wins at all six singles positions.
