ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's tennis team showed continued grit and perseverance on Wednesday afternoon, hosting a strong North Central squad at the Lester Brune Tennis Courts. Despite the 7-0 final score in favor of the Cardinals, the Bluejays fought through each point with effort and determination, gaining valuable experience against one of the CCIW's top teams.
In doubles play, the pairing of Ioannis Varsamis and Charalampos Vasilopoulos at No. 1 put up a competitive effort, pushing through long rallies before ultimately falling 6-0 to the Cardinal tandem. At No. 2, Adrian Songco and Caden Sultzbaugh continued to build chemistry in their partnership, taking the court with intensity before being edged out 6-0. The Bluejays were unfortunately forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match due to limited roster depth.
On the singles side, Vasilopoulos battled from the top spot, grabbing a game in the second set and showing flashes of aggressive baseline play. Varsamis also added a game to his tally at No. 2, continuing to find rhythm in extended exchanges. Sultzbaugh's effort at No. 3 featured a competitive first set, where he pushed Rafael Lessa to 6-2 before momentum shifted. Adrian Songco and Isaac Puchalla brought energy to their matches at Nos. 4 and 5, while Elmhurst was again short a player at No. 6 singles.
