Jays Maintain Unblemished Record with Win at MSOE

RECAP

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team secured a decisive 12-3 victory over MSOE Saturday (March 1) afternoon.

The Bluejays started strong, building momentum early and maintaining their dominance through the final whistle. MSOE struggled to contain Elmhurst's offensive firepower, particularly in the fourth period, where Elmhurst erupted for six goals to seal the win. Despite some bright moments for the Raiders in the third quarter, Elmhurst's superior ball control and offensive efficiency proved too much to handle.

Elmhurst's offensive efforts were led by Eli Spence, who recorded a hat trick and added three assists, playing a crucial role in his team's success. Fischer Son also tallied three goals, while Sam Hoff and Pete Grebe each added two. Hunter Hernandez was a key playmaker, registering two assists to go along with his goal. Goalie Noah Mickelson provided a strong defensive presence, making seven saves on 10 shots faced to keep MSOE at bay.

The game started with Elmhurst setting the tone early, scoring the opening goal at the 14:01 mark through Eli Spence, assisted by Pete Grebe. The Bluejays doubled their lead when Fischer Son found the back of the net at 5:53. MSOE struggled offensively, registering only four shots in the quarter, none of which found the target. Elmhurst held a 2-0 advantage heading into the second period.

MSOE got on the board early in the second period, with Tom Farren scoring at 14:15 to cut Elmhurst's lead to 2-1. However, Elmhurst quickly responded, with Son adding two more goals at 11:35 and 5:22. Spence notched his second goal at 2:16, and Sam Hoff closed the half with a goal at 0:32, assisted by Hernandez. By halftime, Elmhurst had extended their lead to 6-1, outshooting MSOE 19-4 in the period.

MSOE showed some resilience in the third quarter, finding offensive rhythm with goals from Jack Civottolo (4:58) and Tom Farren (2:14), reducing the deficit to 6-3. However, Elmhurst's defense tightened, preventing further scoring chances. MSOE outshot Elmhurst 7-12 in the quarter, but Mickelson made key stops to maintain his team's advantage.

The fourth period saw Elmhurst close out the game in dominant fashion, netting six unanswered goals. Charlie Ferree started the scoring at 13:52, followed by goals from Pete Grebe, Spence, Hernandez, Kyle Taylor, and Sam Hoff. The Bluejays overwhelmed MSOE's defense, taking 19 shots in the period while holding the Raiders to just five. With Elmhurst's relentless attack, MSOE was unable to mount a comeback, and the game ended with a final score of 12-3 in favor of Elmhurst.
