Greencastle, IN — The Elmhurst University women's basketball team turned in a competitive and resilient effort on Monday afternoon but came up short in a 73–62 road loss to Ohio Northern University. The Bluejays matched the Polar Bears for much of the contest, staying within striking distance through four quarters behind strong rebounding, balanced contributions, and steady guard play.
Elmhurst was led by Natalie Harty, who finished with a team-high 14 points while attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line, where she converted five of six attempts. Harty also added an assist, helping direct the Bluejay offense and generate scoring opportunities throughout the game.
Kristin Bukata logged all 40 minutes and delivered a strong all-around performance with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Her presence on the glass and ability to create offense were key factors in keeping Elmhurst competitive, particularly during second-quarter and fourth-quarter stretches.
Anna Kleszynski provided another physical effort in the frontcourt, pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds while adding nine points and a block. Her work on the boards helped Elmhurst hold a narrow rebounding edge and generate second-chance opportunities. Maia Lewers contributed seven points and three rebounds while playing heavy minutes and battling defensively.
Off the bench, Sierra Gibson gave the Bluejays an important lift, scoring 11 points while going 3-for-4 at the free-throw line. Diellza Dalipi added six points on efficient shooting, and Ella Conyers chipped in a three-pointer in limited minutes as Elmhurst received 20 points from its reserves.
As a team, Elmhurst outrebounded Ohio Northern 38–37 and scored 11 second-chance points, keeping the game tight despite shooting challenges from the floor. The Bluejays also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 14 points off miscues and limiting Ohio Northern's transition opportunities.
Elmhurst remained within reach throughout the contest, with the game featuring multiple ties and lead changes, but Ohio Northern's shooting efficiency in the third quarter proved decisive. Despite the result, the Bluejays showed balance, toughness, and composure on the road against a physical opponent.
Elmhurst will look to build on the effort as the season continues December 30 against Trine at 2 PM, carrying forward the strong rebounding, ball movement, and depth displayed in Monday's matchup.
