ELMHURST, Ill. – Dominic Trelenberg recorded his second double-double of the season on Tuesday night, leading Elmhurst to a dominant road win over Ripon (Wisc.), 84-57 inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Three Bluejays finished in double figures in the win, led by Luke Smith's 17 points, on 6-of-12 shooting. Trelenberg finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Aidyn Boone picked up 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting, along with seven rebounds and a game-high five assists.
The Jays (8-3) would open the game with an early lead, before the Red Hawks (2-11) responded with a six-point run to go ahead 10-8 at the 13:44 mark, taking advantage of a five-minute Elmhurst scoring drought. The Bluejays would briefly move back in front after scores from E.J. Marshall and Jack Cherry in the middle of the first half, but Ripon would answer each time, before a nine-point run put the Jays up 24-17 with 6:29 left in the half.
Elmhurst would stay in front the rest of the way, leading by as much as 16 in the first half, on a three-pointer from Boone at the 4:02 mark, and the Jays would take a ten-point lead into the break, 40-30.
The Bluejays extended their lead to start the second half, scoring five straight that included a three from Smith, and would maintain a double-digit lead throughout the rest of the night.
The win marks the sixth straight for the Bluejays inside Faganel Hall, as the team remains perfect at home on the season. The 84 points for Elmhurst is the second-highest point total of the year, only shy of the record-setting 137-point performance over Greenville (Ill.) earlier this month.
The Bluejays resume CCIW play on Saturday, with a trip to Carthage to face the Firebirds at 4:15 p.m. Elmhurst returns home on Wednesday, January 7 to host Millikin at 7:00 p.m.
