Elmhurst’s Defense Takes Flight in 59–39 Win Over Kalamazoo

ELMHURST, Ill.— Elmhurst women's basketball delivered a complete, energetic, and convincing performance on Wednesday night, powering past Kalamazoo 59–39 at R.A. Faganel Hall. Behind a dominant defensive effort, balanced scoring, and another standout night from veteran leaders, the Bluejays moved to 2–1 on the season and continued to build early momentum.

From the opening tip, Elmhurst controlled the pace and played with purpose, overwhelming the Hornets on both ends of the floor. The Bluejays were sharp defensively, forcing 22 turnovers and turning them into 20 points, while holding Kalamazoo to just 15 and only four points in the third quarter. Elmhurst's intensity, depth, and commitment to pressure defense consistently disrupted the Hornets' rhythm and allowed the Bluejays to dictate the flow throughout.

Kristin Bukata fueled the Bluejays with a spectacular all-around performance, finishing with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks—one of the most complete games of her Elmhurst career. She controlled the floor, attacked the paint, and set the tone on defense, constantly sparking transition opportunities.

Anna Kleszynski added 12 points and five rebounds, including a pair of threes and several key baskets that helped Elmhurst stretch its lead in the second and third quarters. Her defensive presence and rebounding added another layer to the Bluejays' strong interior effort. Natalie Robinson chipped in with five points, three rebounds, three blocks, and timely defensive plays in the lane that halted Kalamazoo runs before they could begin.

The Bluejays also showcased impressive balance from the bench. Ella Conyers knocked down two threes to finish with six points, Jacy Fierst added a key triple of her own, and Diellza Dalipi provided toughness inside with five rebounds and a bucket. Maia Lewers contributed five points and four rebounds while serving as a steady two-way presence.

Elmhurst controlled the glass with a 41–47 advantage, held Kalamazoo to just 3-of-25 from deep, and allowed only 11 second-quarter points and four third-quarter points—evidence of a team locked in defensively from start to finish.

With veterans leading confidently and younger players stepping into expanded roles, the Bluejays are building momentum and identity early in the season. Wednesday's win was another example of the depth, energy, and defensive edge fueling the excitement around this year's Elmhurst squad.

Our ladies will return to the court Tuesday November 25, at 7:00 pm to host Manchester University.
