WHEATON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's basketball team calmed the storm, taking down Wheaton College 72-55 on Wednesday (Jan. 29) evening on the road at King Arena.
The Bluejays improved to 9-10 overall and 5-5 in the CCIW, while the Thunder dropped to 3-16 and 0-10 in conference play.
Four Bluejays scored in double figures in the road win, with Sebastian Blachut recording a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double while also adding five assists. Dominic Trelenberg also dropped 16 points, while Tagen Pearson knocked down four three-pointers en route to 15 points. Aidyn Boone contributed 10 points for the Jays.
Despite a below-average shooting night by their standards—going 9-for-32 from three-point range—Elmhurst used multiple large scoring runs to keep the Thunder at bay.
After a close opening two minutes left the score at 6-5, Elmhurst went on an 18-3 run to open a 24-8 lead with 9:06 remaining in the first half. The Bluejays kept the pressure on, with Pearson knocking down three free throws and a transition three-pointer. Despite a late run from the home team, Elmhurst led 33-23 at halftime.
The Jays picked up right where they left off in the second half, scoring the first 15 points unanswered to blow the game open. The lead grew as large as 28 with 3:41 remaining in the second period, and Elmhurst cruised to a 72-55 road win.
