Bluejays Lose Tight One to Carroll

Waukesha, WI - The Elmhurst University women's basketball team headed to Carroll University on Wednesday night (Jan. 22nd) for their eighth conference game of the season. 

The Bluejays (10-6, 2-6 CCIW), were led by Lindsay Novak as she scored 22 points while adding three assists, two rebounds and steals off of the bench. Kirstin Bukata added 14 points with four assists, three rebounds and a steal, while Anna Kleszynski would add 14 points of her own with nine rebounds, three assists and a steal. 

The Pioneers (12-5, 7-1 CCIW) were led by Natialie Gricius as she recorded a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds while adding an assist. Olivia Rangel would add 19 points of her own with along with five steals, and four rebounds, and assists. 

The First quarter would be a back and fourth affair as both teams took a few lead changes. The Bluejays would come out ahead at the end of the first up 18-15. In the Second, the Bluejays would get up to a 10 point lead with a three-pointer from Lindsay Novak but from that point out it would be all Pioneers as they would go on a 16-0 run to close out the half and take back the lead, 34-28.

The Third quarter, both teams would have their own short runs of scoring but ultimately they would draw even in scoring 17-17 to make it a 51-45 game in favor of the Pioneers. The Bluejays would start off the fourth quarter strong as they were able to reclaim the lead twice both times from a layup by Kleszynski. The Pioneers would claim the lead right back from a layup and free throw from Gricius. With just under a minute remaining Novak would bang in a three pointer to give the Bluejays a one point lead with just over 50 seconds remaining. The Pioneers' Gricius would reclaim the lead once again with a jumper, the Bluejays were unable to convert ont heir next two attempts while the Pioneers were able to knock in four free throws to seal the game. Final Score 73-71.
