Volleyball Finishes Tennessee Trip with Wins over LeTourneau, Rhodes

RECAP

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team finished the Rhodes College Classic strong with wins over LeTourneau University and the host Rhodes on Saturday afternoon.

Elmhurst (3-4) had their most consistent day of the 2024 season, downing LeTourneau (3-4) in straight sets in the opener. Against the host Rhodes (4-2), Elmhurst was able to channel success from the service line into victory, as the Jays downed the tournament hosts three sets to one.

Against LeTourneau, Elmhurst cruised, tallying 39 kills to LeTourneau's 15, and 11 aces on the match to go with 36 assists, to dominate their opponents. It was a balanced Bluejay attack, as five different Bluejays tallied 5+ kills, led by Jada Wiley's nine to go with four aces, while Blair Johnson tallied seven kills and all of Kali Phillips, Elise Rossin, and Bryanna Stanford tallied six in the match.

In their finale against Rhodes, Elmhurst jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to 25-17, 25-19 set wins, but dropped the third set, 19-25. In the fourth set, despite going down five points early, the Jays rallied to knot the set a 13-all. From there, the Jays closed the set with a 12-1 run to take the match from Rhodes, three sets to one.

Both Phillips and Rossing tallied ten kills in the match, while Wiley nearly tallied a double-double with nine kills and 13 digs. Gianna Ptaszek was big for the Jays on the defensive side, tallying 18 digs, while the serving duo of Kellyn Kennedy and Savannah Davis each tallied three service aces to help the Elmhurst cause.
