ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's soccer team opened the 2024 campaign with a thrilling late comeback to draw Lake Forest College, 2-2, Friday afternoon at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst (0-0-1) scored their pair of goals within the final 30 minutes of the match, with the opening goal in the 61st minute and the equalizer coming in the 89th minute for a hard-earned draw.
Lauren Nevins scored both goals for the Bluejays in her debut at Elmhurst, while
Camila Rubio matched Nevins with a pair of shots on the evening.
Erin Fitzharris earned the start in the opener, tallying three saves on the night.
Lake Forest (0-0-1) dominated the match early, scoring in the 18th minute and extending their lead to two shortly after halftime. Elmurst cut the deficit in half thanks to a deflection of the goalkeeper that went back to Nevins, who buried it to open the scoring. With time running down, Nevins again received a deflection from the keeper and found the back of the net to knot the game at two. Despite a late push from the Foresters, the Bluejays defense held strong and managed a tie after 90 minutes of action, 2-2.
