ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team dropped their final doubleheader of the 2024 season to North Central College Saturday afternoon.
Elmhurst squandered a late lead in the opener, falling by a score of 8-5, and bowed out of the second game with an 18-3 seven-inning defeat by the hands of the Cardinals.
In the opener, the Jays were hot early, getting a pair of RBI ground outs from
Freddie March and
Jaden Mitchell to grab a 2-0 lead through one inning. A Cardinal solo home run cut the lead in half in the fourth, but the Bluejays regained momentum with an RBI fielders choice from March and a bases-loaded walk from
Erik Malott to put Elmhurst up, 4-1. North Central would go on to outscore the Jays 7-1 through the final two innings, taking an 8-5 win and securing the series.Â
Cole Bozzi had a strong final start in a Bluejay uniform, pitching 7.2 innings and giving up seven hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out seven batters.
