CAROL STREAM, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with Wheaton College Saturday afternoon at Lee Pfund Stadium.
Elmhurst (7-24, 3-12 CCIW) held a lead throughout game one, shutting out the Thunder through eight innings and putting themselves in position to take the weekend series. However, a three-run ninth inning and a walkoff single in the 10th gave Wheaton (9-21, 3-11 CCIW) the momentum it needed to win, taking game two 10-0 in seven innings to take the weekend series.
Charlie Smith provided a strong start for the Jays in the opener, pitching a career-high 8.2 innings and giving up eight hits and two runs while adding five strikeouts, while
Marty Fraga,
Ryan Thrawl, and
Erik Malott each provided RBI's for the Bluejay offense.
Elmhurst recorded just three hits in the night cap, using five different pitchers in the game.
