CLERMONT, Fla. -Â The Elmhurst University softball team split day three of The Spring Games, falling to Wellesley, 4-6, in eight innings and defeating Washington and Jefferson, 4-2, Thursday morning.
Elmhurst (4-6) began the day with a tough two-run defeat in extra innings. After being down 3-0 for the majority of the game, Elmhurst scored four in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead into the final frame. Wellesley (5-3) was able to plate a run in the seventh to knot the game at four, and another two in the eighth to hang on to the 4-6 win.
Brenna Morley fueled the Elmhurst offense in game one, using a three-run triple to put Elmhurst on top, while
Lauren Polich tallied an RBI in a pinch-hitting spot. In the circle,
Chiara O'Leary pitched 6.2 innings with four strikeouts and giving up just three hits but four runs, while
Ali Mockenhaupt ultimatley took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season.
The Bluejays were able to use yet another strong pitching performance from
Gianna Amundsen in game two, who pitched all seven innings and gave up just two runs while striking out five batters to calm the W&J bats and help Elmhurst to the win. At the plate,
Paige Jahaske tallied a pair of RBI to lead the offense, while Amundsen and
Bailey Proffitt earned the other RBI's for the Bluejays.

Elmhurst will have an off day before returning to the field on Saturday, Mar. 23, for two games against Amherst College and Colby College at 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. CT, respecivley.Â
