WAUKESHA, Wis. -Â The 24th-ranked Elmhurst University men's basketball team took down Carroll University, 76-75, Wednesday afternoon in overtime.
Elmhurst (20-5, 12-4 CCIW) was down by seven points with 2:38 left in the game, and used a seven-point burst including a game-tying and-one free throw from
Quinn Pemberton to force another five minutes. Down two with the final possession in overtime,
John Ittounas stepped up and stepped back to knock down a buzzer-beating trey to secure the Bluejays' third 20-win season in the last four full seasons played.
Carroll (13-11, 6-9 CCIW) dominated the paint, outpacing the Bluejays 40-22 in the painted area, but cold shooting in the latter parts of the game ultimatley proved to be too much to overcome for the Pioneers.
Ittounas scored a game-high 27 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field, and a 4-for-8 mark line beyond the arc, also picking up a team-high five assists.
Tagen Pearson and Pemberton matched with 13 points each, with Pemberton also filling up the stat sheet with nine rebounds, four assists, three blocks and four steals.
Ocean Johnson was the final Bluejay in double figures, scoring 12 on the night.
Carroll had four players score in double figures, led by 15 points from Eckahelo Simpson.
