KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst University women's wrestling team competed at the Carthage Classic on Saturday (Dec. 7) inside Tarble Arena.
The Bluejays had three placements at the event, the first three in program history, including a fourth-place finish from
Veronica Cosio at 110.
Itzel Rodriguez placed fifth at 124, while
Clara Rice finished sixth at 160.
RESULTS
103 lbs
- Evalinda Castrejon received two byes but faced tough competition, losing by technical fall in the quarterfinals to Zurri Zamora (North Central) and by fall in the consolation third round to Sofia Kawano (Eureka).
110 lbs
- Zeel Mody started with a bye but suffered quick falls to Amber Turner and Hayle Peck (both from North Central), exiting the bracket after the third consolation round.
- Cosio claimed 4th place, earning 8.0 team points. After two byes, she advanced to the semifinals, where Alexis Winecke (UW-Stevens Point) defeated her by technical fall. Cosio rebounded with a strong 10-2 decision win over Hayle Peck in the consolation semifinals but fell in the 3rd-place match to Leeana Mercado (North Central) by technical fall.
124 lbs
- Rodriguez battled hard for a 5th-place finish, scoring 5.0 team points. She faced a tough slate, losing matches to Aroma Marrufo (North Central) and Alaina Hollendoner (Carthage), but earned a bye in the third round.
160 lbs
- Yareli Ortega competed valiantly but exited after the second consolation round, losing by fall to Izabelle Nelson-Carrillo (Carthage) and Sierra Pienkowski (Carthage).
- Clara Rice earned a 6th-place finish, scoring 7.0 team points. Rice opened with a bye and a hard-fought 6-5 decision victory over Sierra Pienkowski in the quarterfinals. Rice fell in her next three matches, including the 5th-place match against Alexandra Grow (Iowa Central), to place sixth.

The Bluejays are back in action next Sunday, Dec. 15 at the North Central Invite in Naperville, Ill.
