ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's basketball team opened up their season with a win over Rockford University.
Bluejays (1-0), were led by Kirstin Bukata as she had a silent 27 points for the Bluejays while going 8 of 11 from the charity stripe, she also added eight rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Rowan Cusack added 11 points with four steals and three assists as well. Cierra Gibson had a stellar defensive performance as she had eight rebounds, four blocks and three steals
Regents (1-1), were led by the trio of D'Asia Washington with 18 points, seven rebounds and two assists, Jocelyn Callahan with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists, and Nia Wilkerson with 12 points, five rebounds and a steal.
Rockford would lead after the first quarter by dropping 20 points while the Jays were only able to score 12 points. In the second the Bluejays would claw back as they would end the first half down three, 31-28. In the third quarter the Regents would build their lead up to nine points, but the Bluejays would go on a run and score 13 unanswered points and take the lead at the end of the third quarter up 49-45. Both teams were able to score 19 points in the fourth with the Bluejays securing the win with four free throws from Bukata. The biggest difference for the Bluejays in this game were their points off turnovers, as they were able to score 22 points off of Rockford turnovers. This was also the first win as a Head Coach
Cameron Tucker.

The Bluejays will return to action on Thursday, November 14th as they will host Mount Mary University.
