WHEATON, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University men's wrestling team wrapped up competition at the 2024 Pete Willson-Wheaton Invite, placing 21st as a team in the 31-team field.
Graduate student
Jeff Nugent was the highlight for the Jays, earning runner-up honors in the 165-pound bracket. Nugent surged his way to the finals by securing four-straight victories by fall, including a fall over the No. 1-seeded Zach Needles of Messiah College to advance to the final. In the championship match, Nugent fell 0-5 to Jonathan Harvey of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to place second.
Nugent was also named the tournament's Pete George Sportsmanship award, as selected by tournament officials.
Four other Bluejays wrestled in the event, with
Troy Mock and
Colin O'Neill advancing past the first round in the championship bracket before dropping two-straight in the consolation bracket. Zach Kolb and
Donovin Fields also wrestled, with each falling in the second round of the consolation bracket.
