WHEATON, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University baseball team wrapped up the 2023 season with a doubleheader split at Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon.
Elmhurst finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 15-21, and a 6-12 mark in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play.
The Bluejays started game one struggling to garner offense, knocking just three hits in the run-rule, seven inning defeat to Wheaton (16-22, 7-11 CCIW) by a score of 13-3.
Troy Taller,
Erik Malott, and
Jack McGinnis earned RBI for Elmhurst in the opener, while
J.D. Knight finished his career on the mound with 4.1 innings pitched, taking the loss and moving to 2-3 on the season. Fellow graduating senior
Cody Baker ended the game in relief for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst was able to shake off the offensive woes from game one and bounce back in game two, tallying 12 runs on 22 hits, three doubles, and four home runs in the contest. Multiple Bluejays tallied multiple hits, including a pair of 4-for-5 performances from
Ryan Thrawl and
Jesse James, while
Drew Raspolich went 3-for-6 in the game. In his final game as a Bluejay,
Trey Romay left it all on the field with a 2-for-5 effort and four RBI at the plate, with both hits coming via the long ball.
Freddie March also made an impact in his final game at Elmhurst, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a home run.
Cole Bozzi earned the start for the Bluejays, pitching 6.1 innings and striking out five batters to grab the win and improve to 4-4 on the season.
Logan Leach pitched 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, while
Troy Taller closed out the game with his final pitching appearance with the Bluejays.
