KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst University baseball team took down the Carthage College Firebirds, 12-4, in a Sunday afternoon College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matinee at Augie Schmidt Field.
Elmhurst (13-16, 5-8 CCIW) bounced back after losing their last three games, scoring seven runs in the second inning and adding five more runs in the middle innings to secure the series sweep over the Firebirds (7-22, 2-12 CCIW).
Troy Taller earned the start on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings and giving up four runs, eight hits and adding five strikeouts on the afternoon to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Charlie Smith and
Zach Keplar also pitched well in relief, giving up just two hits across the final three innings.
At the plate, four different Bluejays earned multple RBI in the game.
Zach Kolb went 3-for-5 with two RBI, and
Freddie March added two doubles with two RBI.
Drew Raspolich and
Ryan Thrawl also knocked in a pair, with Raspolich going 4-for-5 on the day and Thrawl knocking a two-run home run in the sixth.
UP NEXT
The Bluejays begin a stretch of five-straight home games on Tuesday, April 25, welcoming in Rockford University for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch at Butterfield Park.
