BELOIT, Wis. -Â The Elmhurst University softball team snapped their six-game losing skid Thursday evening, taking both games of a doubleheader over Beloit College.
Elmhurst (12-15, 3-5 CCIW) dominated at the plate in both games, tallying 20 runs and 24Â hits, including eight extra-base hits. The pitching also came through for the Bluejays, giving up just three runs against the Buccaneers.
In game one, the Bluejays used a huge 12-run third inning to dominate Beloit by a score of 15-2 in five innings. Elmhurst tallied 13 hits in the contest, with
Brenna Morley,
Jackie Orel,
Chiara O'Leary, and
Reese Coon each garnering a pair of hits in the contest. Morley led in the RBI department, tallying three in the game, while
Maddie Trost, Orel, and Coon also knocked in a pair of runs for the Bluejays.
Brianna Pisauro started the game for the Bluejays, pitching four strong innings and giving up two runs and four hits with three strikeouts to improve her record in the circle to 6-6 on the season.
Carissa Cavicchioni came on in relief in the final inning, giving up just one hit to shut down the Buccaneers' chance at a comeback.
Orel got the Bluejay offense going in the first, knocking a two-run triple into the right-center field gap to put Elmhurst ahead 2-0. Beloit responded with two runs of their own in the first and second to knot the game at two, but a monstrous third inning that included 12 runs on nine hits for the Bluejays followed to put the visitors in the drivers seat.
The Bluejays kept the momentum in game two, downing the Buccaneers by a score of 5-1 in six innings due to darkness ascending in Beloit.
Elmhurst again used the offense to jump ahead early, with Orel knocking in a run on an RBI groundout, and another on an
Ali Mockenhaupt single. A passed ball allowed Beloit to score their lone run in the home half of the first, but the Bluejays again kept the momentum at the plate.
Julia Noga reached base on an error for another Bluejay run, while Dunk knocked a single up the middle to double the Bluejays' runs and extend the lead to 4-1. An RBI double from O'Leary wrapped the scoring for the Bluejays in game two.
O'Leary started in the circle for Elmhurst in game two, tossing six innings and scattering five hits, giving up one run while adding nine strikeouts in the contest to improve to 6-6 on the season.
