Men's Lacrosse Soars Past Calvin

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team wrapped up its nonconference schedule with a 15-7 win over Calvin University at Langhorst Field.

The Bluejays started off strong scoring five unanswered goals in the first nine minutes of play. Calvin's Christian Coler put the Knights on the board with his first goal of the night with 1:02 remaining in the opening quarter.

Both squads netted two goals apiece in the second quarter for Elmhurst hold a 7-3 advantage at the halfway point.

Five different Bluejays scored the six Elmhurst goals in the third quarter to extend their lead to 13-5. Both teams scored a pair of goals in the fourth in route to the Bluejays cruising to their eighth win of the season.

Calvin (5-5) was led by Coler who finished with three goals and picked up five groundballs. Thomas Smith, Chase Sparling, Josh Gage and Josh Newhouse each added in one goal apiece in the loss. Nate Hanson won 12-of-23 faceoffs for the Knights, while Ethan Boelens and Gage led the team with six groundballs apiece.

Elmhurst (8-1) was led by Jake Grebe with four goals and four assists. Eli Spence followed closely behind with three goals and two assists, while Kaden Ames and Ethan Stepanek each finished with a pair of goals and an assist in the win. Tony Vazquez picked up a game-high 10 groundballs and won 13-of-25 faceoffs for the Bluejays.

Noah Mickelson earned the win in goal for the Bluejays with 11 saves, while Corgan Schaumburg and Carter Sherman combined for five saves for the Knights.

Elmhurst opens up conference play at Carthage College on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 pm.
