Bluejays Fall In Friday Doubleheader to Manchester, Carleton

RECAP

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Elmhurst University softball team fell to Manchester University and Carleton College in a Friday afternoon doubleheader in Florida.

Elmhurst (5-4, 0-0 CCIW) fought hard with Manchester, taking an early 4-0 lead before an eight-run second inning put Manchester ahead 8-4. The Bluejays continued to fight, scoring a pair of runs in the third and another in the fifth to cut the deficit to one, but another pair of runs in the sixth and one in the seventh ultimately gave Manchester the victory.

Alex Kiriakopoulos led the Bluejays at the plate with three RBI in a 2-for-4 effort, while Reese Coon contributed a trio of hits. Maddie Trost, Brenna Morley, and Bailey Proffitt tallied the other RBI for the Bluejays in the contest.

In the circle, Chiara O'Leary dropped to 2-3 on the season after giving up eight runs and recording three strikeouts. Megan Wilson settled the Bluejays down on defense, pitching four innings and giving up two runs with a strikeout, and Ali Mockenhaupt tossed the final inning for the Bluejays.

In game two, a pitching duel occurred throughout the first four innings of the game, with the Bluejays jumping ahead 1-0 in the fifth. However, a run in the fifth from Carleton tied it and another pair of runs in the sixth proved to be enough for the designated home team, as the game went final in favor of Carleton by a score of 1-3.

Reese Coon continued her strong offensive day, knocking in the Bluejays' lone RBI in the contest, while Mockenhaupt went 2-for-3 in the contest. Brianna Pisauro tossed six innings for the Bluejays, giving up three runs (one earned run) with a pair of strikeouts to drop to 3-1 on the season in the circle.
