ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team suffered an 81-47 setback to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans at R.A. Faganel Hall.

The Bluejays trailed by only five at the end of the opening quarter, 22-17, but a single-digit second quarter led to Illinois Wesleyan extending its lead to 45-22 at the half.

The Titans (12-9/7-5 CCIW) outscored Elmhurst (2-17/0-11 CCIW) 36-25 in the second half to cruise a decisive road victory.

The Bluejays were led by Katie Matrise who finished with 12 points. Taylor Harazin followed closely behind with 11 points and seven boards, while Kendall Schieppe added in three three-pointers for Elmhurst in the loss.

Illinois Wesleyan boasted four players in double-figures. Leading the pack was Katelyn Heller with 12 points and four steals. Kate Palmer contributed 11 points and dished out five assists, while Sawyer White and Lauren Huber chipped in 10 points apiece along with three and six rebounds respectively.

The Titans shot 47.9 percent (34-of-71) compared to the Bluejays 34.0 percent (16-of-47).

Illinois Wesleyan took advantage of Elmhurst's difficulty taking care of the ball, causing 25 turnovers and scoring 31 of its points off of them.

The Bluejays travel to Naperville to take on the North Central College Cardinals for their next contest on Saturday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m.
