No. 15 Elmhurst Earns Ninth-Straight Victory in Route of Lawrence

RECAP

ELMHURST, Ill. - The No. 15 Elmhurst University men's basketball team took care of Lawrence University, 74-41, Sunday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall.

Elmhurst (9-0, 3-0 CCIW) started slow, holding just a seven-point lead heading into the second half, but a 44-18 score advantage in favor of the Bluejays in the second half allowed the home team to continue their best start in program history, winning their ninth-straight game.

Elmhurst remains as the only unbeated team in the CCIW, and is one of 18 undefeated teams in NCAA Division III this season. Additionally, Elmhurst has scored 70+ points in every game this season.

The Bluejays found an even offensive attack, with 12 different players scoring in the game. Dominic Trelenberg led the Bluejays with 11 points, while John Ittounas and Tagen Pearson scored 10 for Elmhurst. Jonathan Zapinski grabbed 11 rebounds in the matchup, while Quinn Pemberton tallied four assists to go along with six points.

Lawrence (1-11, 0-4 MWC) was held without a double-digit scorer in the game, while the Bluejays prevented the Vikings from scoring a three-pointer in the game.

After a opening trey from Ocean Johnson, both teams remained even with the score standing at six-all just seven minutes into the game. Elmhurst extended their lead to ten with eight to go, and kept that advantage for most of the final minutes of the first half, failing to pull away and keeping the Vikings within striking distance heading into the break.

The Bluejays were able to turn it on in the second half, with Tagen Pearson's five-point burst opening an 18-point lead with 13 to go. From there, Elmhurst continued to pour it on, leading to a 33-point victory on their home court.
