Men's Basketball Downs Comets

RECAP

OLIVET, Mich. - The Elmhurst University men's basketball team took down The University of Olivet, 76-64, Saturday afternoon in Michigan.

Elmhurst (4-0) continued their strong play early in the 2023-24 campaign, using a trio of players in double-digit scoring and a strong first-half to win their fourth-straight game, and third-straight road contest.

Olivet (2-3) was unable to overcome a slow shooting first-half where the Comets shot 40-percent from the field, and had just one player break the double-digit mark in points.

John Ittounas continued his hot start to the season, scoring a game-high 23 points with five three-pointers while collecting five rebounds and a pair of assists. Jonathan Zapinski notched 17 points on an impressive 7-for-10 shooting from the field, while Tagen Pearson scored 15 points and added four helpers.

The Bluejays opened a 15-point lead after the first-half, with Ittounas scoring 18 of his 23 total points in the first period, and continued to add on to their lead with a trey from Pearson opening a 51-29 lead with 17 minutes to go. 

The Comets were able to fight an get the game within ten points with nine minutes to go, but Elmhurst would not let up and ended with the 12-point win.

UP NEXT

Elmhurst will open College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play next Wednesday, Nov. 29, hosting the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan University for a 7:00 p.m. CT tip-off inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
