KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team suffered a 69-58 setback on the road at Carthage College in Tarble Arena.
The Bluejays hung tight with the Firebirds in the opening quarter. Elmhurst held a three-point lead with 1:36 left to play, but Carthage closed out the period with a 6-1 run to head into the second quarter with a 21-19 advantage.
The Firebirds outscored the Bluejays 21-11 in the second period to head into the locker room with a 12-point lead.
Carthage led by as many as 25 points with 7:52 remaining in the contest, but the Bluejays ended the game on a 16-2 run to close the gap to 11 points.
Elmhurst (2-15/0-9 CCIW) was led by
Taylor Harazin with 25 points and nine boards.
Kendall Schieppe tallied a career-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds, while
Katie Matrise chipped in seven points and dished out three assists in the loss for the Bluejays.
Marianna Morrissey led Carthage (9-9/5-4 CCIW) with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Lauren Knight added in 15 points, while Addison Ebeling contributed 10 points of her own in the win.
The Firebirds fared better from the field shooting 42.9 percent (24-of-56) compared to the Bluejays 40.9 percent (18-of-44). Elmhurst shot well from the foul line finishing with a 78.3 percent (18-of-23), while Carthage shot 42.3 percent (11-of-26).
