ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University softball team celebrated Senior Day at Salt Creek Park by scoring a 6-1 win over Mount Mary University.

Elmhurst grabbed a 1-0 in the first inning as Alana Batista delivered a two-out, RBI single to right to put the Bluejays in front. The Bluejays made it 2-0 in the third on a delayed double steal attempt. Alana Batista deliberately got herself in a rundown between first and second, allowing Jamie Haas to score from third before getting tagged out.
 
Mount Mary (13-17) scored a run in the fourth to make the score 2-1, but Elmhurst answered back with a three-run outburst in the fifth. Batista knocked in a run on a fielder's choice and Amaya Chavez delivered a two-run triple to make the score 5-1. Elmhurst tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on Jamie Haas' RBI double.
 
Haas finished 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and a RBI. Chavez added two hits and drove in two.
 
Sydni Gizynski picked up her sixth victory of the season from the circle, tossing a complete game and limiting Mount Mary to just four hits and one unearned run. She walked five and struck out five.
 
Gizynski, Haas, Jena Hicks, Karly Krown and Jackie Orel were all honored in a pre-game ceremony.

Elmhurst (10-20) hosts Illinois Wesleyan University tomorrow (May 2) at 3:00 p.m.
