ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University softball team closed out its 2022 season by dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Illinois Wesleyan University. The Bluejays fell 8-0 in game one and dropped the night cap 8-3.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 8, ELMHURST 0 (Game One) – Illinois Wesleyan broke open a three-run game with a five-run sixth inning to defeat Elmhurst 8-0 in game one.

The Titans used a bases loaded walk in the first inning to score their first run of the game. Elmhurst used a double play to limit the damage to just one run. Illinois Wesleyan's Madison Moore knocked in a run in the third to double the Titans' lead to 2-0. Hope Yeoman added a run-scoring single in the fifth to give IWU a 3-0 lead. Colleen Palczynski delivered the big blow in the Titans' five-run sixth inning, smashing a one-out grand slam to center field to make the final score 8-0.

Elmhurst struggled to get on track offensively against Titans' starter Natalie Grubczak. Grubczak limited Elmhurst to just two hits and struck out six while picking up the in.
Sydni Gizynski suffered the loss for Elmhurst, scattering nine hits and seven earned runs over six innings. She walked six and fanned three.

Jamie Haas doubled and
Reese Coon added a single to pace Elmhurst at the plate.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 8, ELMHURST 3 (Game Two) – Illinois Wesleyan scored the first six runs of the game and held of a rally from the Bluejays to finish the sweep with an 8-3 win in game two.

Illinois Wesleyan scored six runs in the first two innings. The Titans plated two runs in the first, capitalizing on an Elmhurst error. IWU made it 6-0 after a four-run outburst in the second where the Titans sent nine batters to the plate in the inning.

Elmhurst cut into the lead in the fourth.
Paige Pehlke singled home a run and
Julia Noga drove in a run on a groundout to make the score 6-2. The Titans reclaimed their six-run lead in the bottom of the inning on Hope Yeoman's two-out, two-run single.

Elmhurst took advantage of a two-out Illinois Wesleyan error in the seventh to score its final run and make the final score 8-3. Â

Chiara O'Leary led Elmhurst at the plate with three hits while also scoring a run. Haas and
Reese Coon added two hits apiece for the Bluejays.

O'Leary made the start and took the loss for Elmhurst, working two innings and allowing seven hits and four earned runs. She struck out two while not issuing a walk. IWU's Nina Mardjetko picked up the win, tossing six innings and allowing eight hits and two runs. She walked one and fanned two.
Elmhurst finished the 2022 season with a 10-22 overall record and a 3-13 mark in the CCIW.
