ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team came up short in a 7-2 loss to Carthage College at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Carthage (21-2/5-1 CCIW) swept the three doubles matches to start the day. Daniel Moore and Vanozie Amadike defeated Elmhurst' No. 1 duo of
Tomas Bella and
Brandon Fulmer 8-3. Andrew Antreasian and Cooper Feruzzi toppled the Bluejays' No. 2 pairing of
Justin Penados and
Ben Cavka 8-4. Myle Krzewinski and Nicolas Welker stopped Elmhurst's No. 3 team of
Russell Reyes and
Yannis Varsamis 8-0 at No. 3.
In singles play, Moore defeated Bella 6-0, 2-6, 10-6 in a marathon match at No. 1 singles. Penados gave Elmhurst a win at No. 2, toppling Amadike 6-4, 6-2. Krzewinski stopped Cavka 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3. The Bluejays scored their final point of the day at No. 4 when Fulmer rallied from a set down to topple Welker 3-6, 7-6, 10-8. Nick Marino defeated Reyes 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 while Tripp Schulte defeated Varsamis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Elmhurst hosts Concordia-Chicago on Wednesday, April 27.
