DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback at Millikin University.
Elmhurst (6-7) split the three singles contests with Millikin, but the Big Blue swept the three doubles contests to score the victory.
In doubles play, Elmhurst's No. 1 duo of
Justin Penados and
Brandon Fulmer fell 8-5 to Theo Wolf and Cole Phillips. At. No. 2, Elmhurst's
Ben Cavka and Tomas Bell dropped an 8-2 decision to Holden Owens and Clayton Maack. The Bluejays' No. 3 pairing of
Russell Reyes and
Yannis Varsamis fell 8-2 to James Broach and Reiss Naylor.Â
In singles play, Bella defeated Maack 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 while Penados rallied from a set down to topple Wolf 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Cavka defeated Owns 7-6, 6-3 at No. 3 while Phillips toppled Fulmer 6-2, 6-4 at No.4. Cory Erickson scored a 6-5, 6-4 win for Millikin over Reyes at No. 5 while Broach stopped Varsamis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.Â
