ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team evened its record at 6-6 by doubling up the College of Lake County 6-3 at the Brune Tennis Courts.
The College of Lake County took two of the three doubles contests, but Elmhurst took five of the six singles contests to earn the victory.
In doubles play, Houd Azhar and Billy Friedman downed Elmhurst's
Brandon Fulmer and
Justin Penados 8-6 at No. 1. Elmhurst's
Ben Cavka and
Tomas Bella blanked Mason Cohen and Mike Kim 8-0 at No.2. The Bluejays No. 3 pair of
Russell Reyes and
Yannis Varsamis fell 8-7 to Jack Murrie and Aaron Oster.
In singles play, Bella toppled Friedman 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 while Penados rallied to defeat Houd 2-6, 7-6, 10-8. Cavka rallied from a set down to topple Cohen 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 at No. 3 while Fulmer stopped Murrie 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4. Reyes added a 7-6, 6-1 win over Kim at No. 5 while Shepard defeated Varsamis 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 at No. 6.
