ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback to Augustana College at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Elmhurst (5-6/1-3 CCIW) scored a pair of wins in singles play while Augustana (5-11/3-3 CCIW) scored four wins in singles and swept the three doubles contests.
In doubles play, Augustana's Arthur Hermange and Leonardo Panosso downed Elmhurst's
Tomas Bella and
Justin Penados 8-4 at No.1. Timothee Phillip and Kyle Boudreau added an 8-4 win over the Bluejays' No. 2 duo of
Ben Cavka and
Brandon Fulmer. The Vikings' No.3 duo of Nicolas Navarro and Justin Cassens defeated Elmhurst's
Russell Reyes and
Yannis Varsamis 8-0.
In singles play, Hermange downed Bella 6-0, 6-1 at No.1. Penados scored an Elmhurst victory at No. 2 singles, toppling Panosse 6-7, 6-1, 10-6. Deepak Vayara downed Cavka 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 before Fulmer scored a win at No. 4, defeating Phillip 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. Navarro scored a 6-4, 6-0 win over Reyes at No. 5 while Gabriel Luna defeated Varsamis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
