ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team evened its record at 5-5 by shutting out Carroll University 9-0.
Elmhurst (1-2 CCIW) swept the three doubles matches to start the day.
Tomas Bellas and
Justin Penados defeated Luke Barter and Ian Hofland 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Ben Cavka and
Yannis Varsamis stopped Jack McCaffery and Ryan Strupp 8-3 at No.2. Elmhurst's No. 3 duo of
Brandon Fulmer and
Russell Reyes earned a win by forfeit.Â
In singles play, Bella stopped McCaffery 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 while Penados dispatched Barter 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Cavka defeated Hofland 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 while Fulmer toppled Strupp 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. Reyes defeated Pierson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 while Varsamis earned a forfeit at No. 6.Â
Elmhurst plays the College of Lake County next Thursday (April 21).Â
