Softball Team Wins Pair

PEORIA, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team improved to 3-1 on the season after sweeping games from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Mount Mary College.
 
Elmhurst opened with a 7-1 win over UW-Platteville before edging Mount Mary 4-3 in the night cap.

ELMHURST 7, UW-Platteville 1 – Elmhurst scored two runs in the first and third innings and added a three-spot in the sixth to toppled UW-Platteville 7-1 in the Bluejays' opening game of the day.
 
Alana Batista started the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning for Elmhurst. RBI singles from Batista and Maddie Trost accounted for the Bluejays' two runs in the third. Jena Hicks knocked in one and Kate Sommer drove in two for the Bluejays in the seventh.
 
Batista finished 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIS. Trost also added two hits for the Bluejays in the win.
 
Hicks earned the win from the circle, pitching five innings and allowing seven hits and one run while striking out one.
 
ELMHURST 4, MOUNT MARY 3 – Elmhurst rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Mount Mary 4-3 and improve to 3-1 on the year.
 
After Mount Mary scored three times in the first inning, the Bluejays took two back in the second on RBI singles from Amaya Chavez and Madison Spencer. Elmhurst scored a run in the fifth on a triple from Batista to tie the game at 3-3. An error on Mount Mary in the sixth inning allowed the Bluejays to score the game-winning run.
 
Trost finished 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Bluejays' offense. Sydni Gizynski earned the win from the circle, tossing six innings of scoreless relief. She allowed three hits and walked two while fanning five.
