WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team suffered a setback on the road at Carroll University, dropping the contest 33-87.
The Bluejays trailed 25-10 at the end of the first quarter and the Pioneers lead only grew after Elmhurst posted a two-point second quarter. Carroll headed to the locker room with a dominant 54-12 lead.
Both squads scored 15 points apiece in the third quarter before the Pioneers outscored the Bluejays 18-6 in the final quarter of play.
Elmhurst (3-19) was led by 
Marissa Urso with nine points all from behind the arc. 
Sophia Micos came off the bench to chip in six points, while 
Kate Matthews added in four points and four rebounds of her own.
Carroll (15-6) boasted three players in double-figures. Leading the way was Megan Madsen with 15 points and five rebounds.  Both Kate Christian and Brooke Foster added in 10 points apiece. Allison Thompson chipped in nine points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Pioneers shot 51.7 percent (31-of-60) compared to the Bluejays 22.6 percent (12-of-53) from the field. 
Elmhurst outshot Carroll 28.6 percent (6-of-21) to 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from behind the arc.
The Bluejays head to Rockford for a non-conference matchup against the Regents on Friday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m.
