ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team earned its first conference victory by defeating Augustana College 55-44 at R.A. Faganel Hall.
After being outscored 10-6 in the first quarter, the Bluejays won the following three quarters to finish up their home season with a win.
Elmhurst (3-18) trailed 25-22 at the half, but took the lead with 7:45 left in the third quarter and kept it until the final buzzer.
The Bluejays were led by freshman
Ella Riley who had 15 of Elmhurst's 22 points in the first half. Riley finished with a career-high 18 points connecting on 6-of-11 shots from behind the arc.
Kate Matthews added in 17 points and five rebounds in the victory.
Marissa Urso chipped in nine points, while teammate
Taylor Harazin contributed eight points as well as a game-high 18 rebounds.
Augustana (11-11) was led by Macy Beinborn with 12 points, nine of which came off of three three-pointers, and four rebounds. Following closely behind was teammate Gabriela Loiz with 11 points, 10 boards and six assists. Lauren Hall chipped in eight points and seven rebounds in the loss.
The Vikings shot 28.1 percent (16-of-57) compared to the Bluejays 30.9 percent (17-55). Elmhurst outshot Augustana 31.0 percent (9-of-29) to 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from behind the arc.
Elmhurst heads to Carroll University on Wednesday, February 9 for another CCIW matchup.
