ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team came up short against North Central College, dropping the contest 72-59.

The Bluejays trailed by five points after the first quarter, but struggled offensively posting only nine points in the second quarter compared to the Cardinals 19.

Elmhurst headed into the locker room down 15 with two quarters left to play.

Elmhurst (2-18) was able to cut the lead to 11 four times during the fourth quarter, but was unable to get any closer.

North Central (8-14) finished with four players in double-figures. Leading the way was Elle Sutter with 17 points and five rebounds, while teammate Mitrese Smith added in 12 points. IxChel Leeuwenburgh chipped in 10 points and Allison Pearson posted the sole double-double for North Central with 10 points and 12 boards.

The Bluejays finished with three players in double-figures. Leading the way on her Senior Day was Taylor Harazin with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Kate Matthews ended with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ella Riley added in 11 points, nine of which came off of three three-pointers.

The Cardinals outshot the Bluejays 47.6 percent (30-of-63) to 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field. Elmhurst shot 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the foul line compared to North Central's 53.3 percent (8-of-15).

Elmhurst hosts Augustana on Monday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. for its final home game of the season.
