HANOVER PARK, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team fell to 1-2 on the season after narrowly dropping a 5-4 decision to Lake Forest College at Centre Court.
Lake Forest (3-2) scored a pair of wins in doubles play. The Foresters' duo of Oleksi Vyshyvanyuk and Daniel Tulchinskiy downed Elmhurst's
Tomas Bella and
Justin Penados 8-2 at No. 1. Jacob Tilton and Eduardo Manuitt stopped the Bluejays' pair of
Brandon Fulmer and
Russell Reyes 8-2 at No. 3. Elmhurst scored its doubles point at No. 2 when
Ben Cavka and
Florin Stan defeated Zach Cho and Kyle Lassen 8-3.
Elmhurst came up one point shy in singles competition as the two teams split the six contests. Vyshyvanyuk downed Bella 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1. Elmhurst won three straight matches at No.2, No. 3 and No. 4. Penados downed Tulchinskiy 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 while Cavka followed with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Cho at No. 3. Stan blanked Tilton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 for Elmhurst's final singles point. Manuitt downed Fulmer 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 while Lassen stopped Reyes 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 to help Lake Forest earn the victory.
Elmhurst hosts MSOE on Wednesday, March 2.
