KALAMAZOO, Mich. -Â The Elmhurst University men's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak, downing Kalamazoo College on the road 81-61 Wednesday evening.
Wesley Hooker provided an efficient 22 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the field to lead the Bluejays (6-2, 0-2 CCIW) to the 20-point road victory, while
John Ittounas provided 13 points for his second-straight double digit scoring performance.
Jonathan Zapinski tallied just six points on the evening, but grabbed 11 boards and blocked five shots on the evening. Zapinski has grabbed 10+ rebounds in all but two games this season, and has recorded 3+ blocks in all but one game for the Bluejays.
Ocean Johnson provided 17 points for the Elmhurst offense and has yet to score in the single digits this season.
Kalamazoo (1-4, 0-0 MIAA) was led by Ty Horky's 15 points, while Josh Decker provided three triples and 13 total points for the Hornets.Â
The Bluejays began the game with a 15-4 run spanning nearly six minutes of game time, holding the Hornets scoreless for five out of the six minutes. The scoring continued steadily throughout the first half, with Johnson providing the spark for the Elmhurst offense and keeping the Bluejays to a steady double digit lead. Kalamazoo turned the scoring on at the end of the first half, finishing on a 9-0 run to bring the score within three heading into halftime.
Out of the half,
Kole Hornbuckle provided a four point burst followed by a Johnson jumper to bring the lead back up to nine. The Hornets continued to keep the game close thanks to four second-half treys, including on back-to-back possessions to again bring the score within five for the home side. A trey from Decker with eight minutes to go moved the score to 59-52 in favor of the visitors, but the Bluejays proceeded to put the game away with a 17-4 run to build a 21-point lead, ultimately ending the half on a 22-9 run to seal the road victory for the Bluejays.

Elmhurst continues CCIW action this weekend on the road, traveling to Wheaton, Ill. to take on the 11th-ranked Wheaton Thunder. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CT.
